President Museveni of Uganda unveiled a brand new infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) named Chui which means leopard in the Swahili language to UPDF and the country.
According to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chui was designed and manufactured locally in Uganda and will help enhance the capabilities of the Uganda People’s Defense Force(UDF).
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba says that Uganda has been earning 550milion dollars in export but returning 500 million dollars of that money to buy equipment from countries like Japan, the USA, France, and others which is not good.
President Museveni of Uganda has put many efforts into industry development by funding and facilitating industrial training, research, allocating free land to investors to set up industries and factories, and emphasizing value-added goods.
The Chui project is one of many projects initiated by president Museveni of Uganda which is starting to bear some fruits and this project will not only give Ugandans jobs and facilitate more research but also experience in this new field of manufacturing.
President Museveni of Uganda has been urging African countries to come together and invest in fields of great importance in order to become self-sufficient but so far few countries have been able to get the message in Africa due to different factors and realities affecting many African countries.
Other countries in Africa like Egypt, South Africa, and Nigeria are also investing in homegrown defense industries and capabilities.
