Two ex-board members of the OpenAI, the leading company in Artificial Intelligence have said the company can’t be left to regulate itself as they cite safety concerns should no regulation be implemented.
The former board members Tasha McCauley and Helen Toner said AI companies in general should be under government regulations, saying they shouldn’t be left to govern themselves.
The ex-officials describe the regulation as an essential thing to be done by the government as they indicated AI’s potential for both negativity and positivity.
They argued that there’s a need for third parties to hold the AI companies accountable should their work be seen as a threat to the existence of human society.
Helen and Tasha said they stood by their decision to remove Sam Altman, the co-founder of OpenAI as they accused him of creating a “toxic culture of lying” and other attitudes that can lead to psychological abuse.
Since the return of Sam Altman as the CEO of OpenAI, the ex-board members said, their fear of safety regarding AI has increased and that, should AI truly want to achieve his service to humanity, there’s an urgent need for government intervention to establish effective regulatory guidelines for them.
