Thailand’s Parliament has given the green light for Thailand to apply for membership in BRICS. The government spokesperson, Chai Wacharonke, confirmed that the cabinet has approved a proposal expressing Thailand’s interest in joining the group.
After the recent admission of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates on 1st January. Thailand is now among the next 15 countries being considered for membership.
BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It’s an association of five major emerging economies, known for their significant influence on regional and global affairs. BRICS aims to enhance cooperation in various areas such as economics, politics, and culture.
However, Thailand has engaged in various forms of cooperation with BRICS countries, particularly in trade, investment, and diplomacy.
Thailand has since shown interest in enhancing its relations with BRICS nations to leverage economic opportunities and strengthen regional partnerships.
