The Taliban government in Afghanistan has welcomed the decision of the Russian government to delist the group from the list of terrorist organizations worldwide.
Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday described the Taliban as the real power in Afghanistan recognizing their legitimacy after maintaining three years.
Responding to the Russian decision, the head of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar Suhail Shaheen on Monday said, the government appreciates Russia’s proposal to remove the Taliban from the terrorist list.
Shaheen in a statement made available by Sputnik said “We welcome the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Justice Ministry to Kremlin to remove the status of a terrorist organization from IEA.”
He expressed his gratitude to the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov over his announcement and commended the Russian government for putting its national interests above and playing the rules of politics.
Shaheen expressed the Taliban government’s readiness to work with Russia in the international community saying they were never a terrorist organization but rather a group fighting against foreign occupation in their country.
He added that the Taliban government is ready to work both on regional and international levels with countries from different parts of the world saying they are in a new era of political independence in Afghanistan.
