A devastating bus crash on Interstate 20 in western Mississippi has claimed the lives of seven people and left numerous others injured after a commercial bus overturned early Saturday morning near Bovina, in Warren County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Authorities confirmed that six passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while a seventh person died later at a nearby hospital. The bus, traveling westbound, veered off the highway and flipped over. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
A total of 37 passengers were rushed to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson for treatment of various injuries. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash and has yet to release the identities of the deceased.
Among the victims were a six-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, both identified by their mother. According to Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey, the siblings were originally from Guatemala, and several other passengers on the bus were also reported to be Guatemalan nationals.
Local residents described the aftermath as chaotic, with scenes of shock and confusion. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is actively investigating the factors that may have led to the bus leaving the roadway.
