The Kano State Police Command praised residents for their peaceful conduct as Emirs Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Bayero led Friday prayers simultaneously in Kano.
Sanusi was reinstated by Gov. Abba Yusuf, while Bayero is challenging his removal in court, both vying for the throne.
The city of Kano was anticipated to experience clashes between supporters of the two factions, prompting police warnings for potential troublemakers to avoid Kano.
While Sanusi led prayers at the Central Mosque, Bayero observed his prayers at the Nasarawa Palace.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usaini Gumel, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Friday that prayers were conducted peacefully across the 44 LGAs of the state.
Recall, the Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker RT. Hon. Jibrin Falgore on Thursday announced the dethronement of the five Emirs and the abolishment of the five Emirates during a special session.
The Assembly passed the Kano Emirates Council law (repeal bill) 2024, nullifying the previous law, and all offices established under it have been dissolved.
The law governing the Kano Emirate was amended after the deposition of the previous emir, Muhammadu Sanusi, on March 9, 2020
