Rescue operations in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province have intensified as teams head towards a potential crash site detected by a Turkish drone. According to the Fars News Agency, the head of the Red Crescent in the region confirmed that the area, which is emitting heat, could be the location where President Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter went down.
The site, located in an area known as Tavil, was identified during the ongoing search efforts aided by Turkish aerial surveillance. Iran’s Press TV has also reported that rescue forces are making their way to this spot.
The Iranian Red Crescent has dispatched 73 rescue teams to the suspected crash site, including units with detector dogs. Despite the concerted effort, challenging weather conditions, including rain and fog, are hampering visibility and complicating the rescue mission.
This development comes as Iran and the international community anxiously await news about President Raisi and others aboard the missing helicopter. The drone’s detection has provided a glimmer of hope in an otherwise grim search operation.
Rescue teams are determined to reach the area swiftly, despite the adverse weather, to confirm the presence of the helicopter and commence any necessary rescue operations.
