The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) has announced that it has successfully delivered more than 475,000 barrels of crude oil to the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHRC) via its Bonny Oil & Gas Terminal (BOGT).
According to a statement by the Media Relations Manager, Abimbola Essien-Nelson, this is part of the Federal Government’s plan to boost domestic refining capacity and ensure product availability in the country.
She stated that BOGT resumed this service last week after a long break of over five years, during which the refinery carried out repair and integrity works on its supply pipeline from BOGT.
The Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria and the Managing Director of SPDC, Dr. Osagie Okunbor, said, “The project teams from BOGT and PHRC worked with great preparation, cooperation, and commitment to make the project a success.
This is a remarkable step in the country’s efforts to use key infrastructures to guarantee the consistent supply of products from the refinery to the Nigerian market.”Okunbor added, “The future supplies from BOGT will depend on the product demand.”
The Bonny Terminal Installation Manager, Osita Nnajiofor, said, “Before starting the supplies of the product to the refinery, the project teams first ensured the integrity of pipelines related to NNPC Limited subsidiaries and integrity and maintenance activities on the BOGT refinery export pumps (which had been idle for a long time).”
“The resumption of crude oil supply from the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal to the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited is a significant achievement and a game-changer for the industry and the country and will support the federal government’s goal of a steady supply of petroleum products to the downstream market and other related benefits to the nation’s economy,” he concluded.
Port Harcourt is one of the four refineries owned by the government that have been dormant for years, but which the government is trying to revive to end the country’s dependence on fuel imports.
