Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged for increased air defense support to counter Russian attacks as he embarked on a packed week of diplomatic engagements with Western allies.
Zelensky highlighted at a conference in Berlin that Russia’s main advantage over Ukraine is its dominance in the skies, allowing Russian troops to advance using missiles and bombs. He firmly stated that the key to countering this threat is to strengthen air defense capabilities.
Zelensky is scheduled to speak at the German parliament before joining the leaders of the G7 nations in Italy later this week. Afterward, he will travel to Switzerland for peace talks regarding the Ukraine war over the weekend, with Russia not included in the discussions.
Inaugurating the Berlin conference, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on allies to increase their assistance in providing air defense for Ukraine.
“I appeal to everyone present here today: let us wholeheartedly back our initiative to bolster Ukraine’s air defense with all available means,” Scholz urged delegates.
