Russia is said to have delisted the Taliban from the group of banned terrorist organizations after maintaining power for three years since their return to Afghanistan.
Russia will follow suit with Kazakhstan which recently decided to remove the Afghan government from the list of terrorist organizations.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia will recognize the legitimacy of the Taliban government as Moscow aimed to increase diplomatic ties with Afghanistan.
Lavrov describes the Taliban as the legitimate government in Afghanistan, saying they won’t have an indifferent approach to them and will maintain normalcy with them as done to other allies in Central Asia.
As part of fostering diplomatic ties with the Taliban, Russia has invited the government delegates to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum as part of their inclusiveness in recognizing their legitimacy.
