Last week, the Israeli parliament passed a preliminary motion approving a bill aimed at designating UNRWA as a “terrorist organization.
Israel passed a bill on May 29 aimed at designating the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization.
The legislation, which cleared its preliminary reading in the country’s parliament, the Knesset, with three more readings pending, was accompanied by another bill proposing to sever all ties with UNRWA and strip it of various immunities.
If the legislation is enacted, these measures would not only bar UNRWA from operating in Israel but also criminalize the organization, its activities, and its personnel.
