Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a first official surprise visit to the Philippines, his first into the country since his victory in 2019.
During the visit to the Southeast Asia country, Zelensky met with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., a significant and first-ever dialogue between the leaders of the two countries.
He expressed his gratitude to President Marcos for his support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its stand on Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
Zelensky also used the meeting to induce President Marcos to support the Switzerland Peace Summit, clarifying the significant roles to be played by the Southeast Asia countries in ensuring global peace.
Both leaders also discussed expanding trade in agricultural export, with Zelensky expressing Ukraine’s readiness to deliver much-needed products to the Philippines.
