The Odisha police have remanded the Assembly candidate of the BJP Party in the Khurda Assembly Prasanta Jagaved for destroying the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) used in conducting elections.
According to the report, the legislative candidate and his supporters had an altercation with an electoral officer during their visit to the polling booth at Kuanripatna on Saturday afternoon.
Following the incident of disputes that erupted between the BJP candidate Jagadev and the officer in charge of the election, Jagadev allegedly destroyed the voting machine before his arrest by the police.
Development confirmed that the nonchalant attitude of the BJP candidate interrupted the electioneering ongoing in the sixth phase of the Assembly elections.
After his arrest, Jagadev and his supporters denied their involvement in the destruction of the electioneering machine, saying the EVM got damaged after falling uncontrollably to the ground.
He protested against his detention by the police and accused the police of not being professional with their duty as he demanded the footage of the security camera inside the polling booth.
