Former Kaduna Senator Shehu Sani stated that the peaceful protest conducted by the people of Niger in Minna on Monday was a clear message directed towards the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
News outlets reported that a large number of women and young people gathered at the roundabout in the Pkakungu area of Minna on Monday to voice their complaints about the tough economic situation they are facing.
Some of the men participating in the protest blocked the disruption to the flow of traffic, and despite the police’s attempts to halt the demonstration, they were unsuccessful.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Yakubu Garba, had to step in and address the protesters for things to calm down in the city.
In response to the incident, Sani stated on his social account stated that the protest was a plea for urgent and effective actions to tackle the widespread poverty in the country.
The former Senator also mentioned that peaceful demonstrations fall within the rights of the citizens.
