Exactly one year ago, the APC Presidential candidate and the winner of the 2023 General Election in Nigeria Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was handed the mantle of leadership by former President, H.E Muhammad Buhari.
Amidst hope and happiness, many Nigerians were feeling ecstatic about the incoming administration following his antecedents during his tenure as the former Governor of Lagos State where he achieved much excellence.
Tinubu has been dubbed a nation-builder and astute politician which many Nigerians have seen as the Moses who will take Nigerians to the promised land with his knowledge of modern politics.
While Tinubu was known for his technocratic nature and political acumen, one which was missing in President Muhammad Buhari, the political atmosphere expected a new dawn upon his arrival.
Tinubu came with his renewed hope agenda as he anticipated awakening the hope of Nigerians in governance and politics after ascribing to himself “Emi Lokan” over the leadership position of the nation.
Amid all this rancor of optimism and hope, the administration of President Tinubu began on a negative note after announcing his intention to remove the fuel subsidy, a move that jeopardized the living conditions and skyrocketed the cost of living for all.
The embattled Tinubu administration since their ascension to power has deteriorated the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians, with inflation reaching the highest peak ever witnessed in the country coupled with a low low-income scheme.
Many promises made by the President during his presidential campaign have yet to manifest or yield positively even the dubbed student loan hasn’t begun on a full scale.
As Tinubu reached a one-year milestone as Nigeria’s President, the country has further been divided on political lines with the Igbos being the major scapegoat after his promises of uniting the country against any division.
The Yorubas which was the tribe the president originated also felt the heat of the administration with medium and small-scale enterprises affected badly due to changes in the exchange of currencies that have had catastrophic effects on the Nigerian economy.
The renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu is simultaneously turning into a lost hope for many Nigerians who have yet to benefit from the dividends of the government.
The first anniversary of President Tinubu has yielded negatively for the masses who campaigned with all their sweat amidst the naira scarcity and voted for their choice even when the political atmosphere became unpredictable.
