Irah has begun the registration of Presidential candidates vying for one of the top posts in the country following the death of former president Ebrahim Raisi.
The registration commenced on Thursday as an early election was stated for next month as stated by Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi.
The death of Raisi has sent a shockwave across the country with many believing the next election would be influenced based on many circumstances.
The registration for the Presidential candidates will lapse in five days after which the Guardian Council responsible for overseeing elections and legislation will vet the candidates running for the post.
The list of the qualified candidates will be made known on June 11 after a thorough assessment of the candidates by the Council.
Among the candidates who have declared interest in the post are Saeed Jalili, a former chief nuclear negotiator, Parviz Fattah, a former Guards member, interim president Mohammed Mokhber, ex-parliament speaker Ali Larijani are names mentioned already vying for the Presidential position.
