India Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted former US Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other top US lawmakers in Delhi on Thursday after the US officials met with Dalai Lama in Dharamsala.
Among the delegates that met with the Indian Prime Minister includes Michael McCaul who led the caucus to Delhi with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi after meeting with the anti-China activist in Dharamsala on Wednesday.
The visit to PM Modi was strategic as the US government continued to declare support for Dalai Lama after recurring warnings from China over their engagement with him.
The United States has continued to declare support for the rights of the Tibetans to practice their religion and culture which China has infringed on them in the Himalayan region.
The US House of Representatives earlier this month passed a bill to compel China to hold talks with Tibetan leaders which has stalled since 2010 as they aimed to secure a negotiated agreement on Tibet and spur China to tackle Tibetan aspirations over their historical identity.
