APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje faces a lawsuit seeking his removal, with the Federal High Court in Abuja scheduling a hearing for June. Justice Inyang Ekwo set the date after the plaintiff’s lawyer, Benjamin Davou, requested additional time to respond to Ganduje’s preliminary objection.
Ganduje’s preliminary objection prompted Justice Inyang Ekwo to set the date after the plaintiff’s lawyer, Benjamin Davou, requested additional time to respond.
The North Central APC Forum, led by Saleh Zazzaga, has filed a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024 challenging the propriety of Ganduje’s appointment as APC Chairman since he is not from the North Central geo-political zone. The defendants in the case are Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
When the case was called on Thursday, Davou explained that the hearing could not proceed as scheduled because Ganduje’s lawyer, Raymond Asikeni, had just served him a notice of preliminary objection and a counter affidavit.
Davou assured the court that he would file his reply to these documents on Wednesday, immediately after the public holiday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plaintiff, in the main suit, seeks to restrain Ganduje from continuing to present himself as the APC Chairman. Additionally, the plaintiff requests that the court direct INEC to withhold recognition of all actions taken by the APC, including congresses, primaries, and nominations, since Ganduje assumed the chairmanship on August 3, 2023.
