The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has, for the second time in less than four months, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prevent the state from descending into total anarchy. They urge him to declare a state of emergency to protect the lives and property of residents.
The information was revealed during a press conference at the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, where the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Tony Okocha, stated that the call to declare a state of emergency was made in good faith to prevent the state from descending into further destruction.
Okocha made these remarks shortly after the new CTC chairmen and members for the twenty-three local government councils were screened and sworn in.
He argued that the screening of CTC members by only three members of the House of Assembly constituted an illegality.
Okocha questioned why the Governor has opted not to conduct proper local government elections but instead chose to appoint caretakers to manage the councils, which he described as an aberration.
