Finidi George’s resignation as head coach of the Super Eagles has taken a new twist. Sources from the Football Federation have clarified that as of now, the NFF has not accepted his resignation letter, dated June 14, 2024.
Finidi George, aged 53, expressed his opposition to the idea of working under a foreign coach, perceiving it as a vote of no confidence from his employers.
He was unveiled as the new Super Eagles coach on May 13 in Abuja.
However, Finidi failed to secure wins in his first two official matches: the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin earlier this month.
Finidi stepped down as the head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles in response to the Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to bring in a foreign technical adviser.
The move followed concerns over the team’s recent performance, highlighted by a significant loss to the Benin Republic, which has left the Super Eagles facing challenges in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
