India Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on poise for a new record of becoming India’s Prime Minister for the third time as the country enters into its last round of elections.
The last round of a six-week-long general election begins on Saturday as the election is pivotal in the country’s history.
Should Modi win the election, he will become the second Prime Minister of India to emerge in power for a third term following only Jawaharlal Nehru.
Nearly 970 million eligible voters are reported to participate in the decisive elections that indicated vacancies for over 8,300 candidates.
Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently in the election against a close opposition party of the Indian Alliance led by the Congress Party in a general poll.
Modi who during his tenure hosted the G-20 summit in India reiterated his commitment to turning India into a leading force in the economy and making it a developed nation by 2047.
Modi who’s tipped to be elected for another term has been faced with many challenges with recent coming from the dissenting Muslim group of the country who opposed Modi over his speech targeted at the Muslim group.
Modi will be looking at the Hindus majorly for support after he was accused of dividing India on religious grounds.
Should the last round of the votes be completed today, it will be counted on Tuesday with expectations of announcing the results on the day.
