Outgoing Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte has been given a notch to become the next NATO Secretary-General, succeeding Jens Stoltenberg whose tenure is expected to end soon.
According to the report, Rutte’s bid for the bloc Secretary-General was confirmed following Hungary’s position on lifting its veto on the outgoing Prime Minister.
For Hungary not to pose a threat to Rutte’s ascension, the outgoing PM gave a written assurance of not enforcing any country to participate in the military alliance created to provide support for Ukraine.
While giving the assurance to Viktor Orban, Mark Rutte removed a stumbling block to his ascension as the next Secretary-General of NATO.
