Lauren Sanchez, a 53-year-old journalist and helicopter pilot, will lead five other women in the mission set for early 2024 aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket.
The other participants are yet to be revealed. Sanchez says she is “super excited” to lead the crew and share a message with the world.
Bezos won’t be joining the flight, but he supports the mission, according to Sanchez.
Blue Origin has launched six passenger flights to the edge of space.
However, the FAA has grounded future launches following a separation and explosion of a Blue Origin spacecraft in September.
