The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has intensified security measures along the Gaza border in anticipation of potential long-range rocket launches or other attacks on the anniversary of the October 7 massacre. Despite Hamas being significantly weakened as a military entity, the IDF acknowledges the possibility that remaining operatives could still carry out rocket strikes, including on central Israel.
In preparation for potential threats, the IDF has increased its presence, particularly along the Gaza border and in the Netzarim Corridor, where it maintains a semi-permanent presence. Several companies have been deployed to defend Israeli border towns, and the military is working closely with police and medical services in the event of any attacks.
Southern Command Chief Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman announced that the military remains on high alert, ready to respond with defensive and offensive actions. Meanwhile, the IDF has maintained its forces in the Rafah and Philadelphi Corridor along the Egypt-Gaza border. The 162nd Division, previously stationed in Rafah, launched a new operation in Jabaliya, northern Gaza, targeting Hamas operatives attempting to regroup.
This surprise offensive, involving armored brigades, has reportedly resulted in the deaths of several dozen Hamas operatives through airstrikes and tank fire.
The IDF continues to focus on neutralizing any remaining Hamas forces in northern Gaza, an area still believed to house tens of thousands of Palestinians, including terror operatives.
