The French lower house on Tuesday ordered the suspension of a hard-left deputy MP from the Les Insoumis (LFI) Party for 15 days for controversially raising a Palestinian flag in the Assembly.
The act by the deputy led to the suspension of the proceedings for an hour as a dispute arose over the gesture of the MP.
The National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet described the attitude of the MP as intolerable before suspending the session and excluding deputy Sebastien Delogu whose deputy pay was also halved for two consecutive months.
The hard-left MP Delogu raised the Palestinian flag in support of the besieged Gaza against Israeli occupation within the region.
Sharing his view on waving the flag, Delogu said “I waved the Palestinian flag in the National Assembly because as I speak, France sells weapons, sells parts to supply the Israel army.
“There is a genocide going on there”, he added.
The situation has led to division in the French parliament and globally with the LFI party positioning itself as a Pro-Palestine.
