The Benue state house of Assembly passed a bill for the care of former governors of the state and their deputies on Thursday.
The bill was introduced on the house floor for approval by the chairman of the House standing committee on appointments, public service, and pensions, Mr. Geoffrey Agbatse. He explained that the bill had been amended as per the house’s recommendation and encouraged his colleagues to accept it.
After a clause-by-clause review of the bill, speaker Titus Uba, who presided over the session, suggested that it be read for the third time after which it was adopted.
The bill, which was introduced, provides that a former governor of the state will receive a monthly stipend equal to the basic salary of a serving governor, the same as the former deputy governors.
