The European Union has formally agreed to begin ascension talks with both Moldova and Ukraine from next week to join the Western bloc.
This was announced by the Union’s official on Friday who said the discussion will first be held in Luxembourg.
“European Union ministers will start negotiations first with Ukraine and then with Moldova in Luxembourg on Tuesday afternoon”, the report said.
Both Ukraine and Moldova who were formerly under the defunct USSR made their bid to join the European Union amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The announcement to begin ascension talks with Ukraine and Moldova will put both countries at the earliest stage of their membership into the Union.
The European Union executive has informed member states that Moldova and Ukraine have met all the criteria needed to launch ascension talks with them.
Moldova President Maia Sandu on Friday signed a decree on launching talks on the country’s ascension to the European Union.
