Miss Favour Ugwuka, a final-year student at Ebonyi State University in Abakaliki, tragically committed suicide after failing an examination for one of her courses.
The incident was confirmed by the Ebonyi State Police Command on Thursday.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, the matter was reported to the Headquarters.
Investigation reveals that Favour, a final-year student in the Department of English at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, committed suicide in her hostel at the Ishieke Campus of the University.
However, a local source reveals that Favour had passed all her courses, and she repeatedly failed one particular course. Shockingly, the lecturer for this course had vowed that she would never pass.
In a sorrowful video circulated online, a woman identified as the deceased’s mother accused a lecturer of driving her daughter to suicide.
Expressing her grief in the video, the woman stated, “Dr. Enyi claims he’s the best, boasting that nobody can teach like him. He should come and take responsibility for my daughter’s suicide.
Additionally, a graduate of the institution, who goes by the name Rex Nwome, alleged that the young woman took her life due to repeated failures in a specific course.
He stated, “Favour was not only my classmate but also my closest friend in the English Department. The lecturer in question made it clear that Favour would never graduate.”
