Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has rejoined training, offering a lift for the Netherlands ahead of their European Championship opener in a week.
The midfielder is considered crucial to Dutch aspirations at the tournament in Germany. He reunited with the squad on the pitch for the first time on Sunday after a week of individual training. De Jong has been grappling with ankle injuries this season and hasn’t played a match since April.
The 26-man squad, finalized on Friday, will require any injury replacements to be made before the Dutch play their first Group D game against Poland in Hamburg next Sunday.
Regarding the fitness of the Dutch squad ahead of the tournament, Koeman said, “A number of the players had some rest towards the end of the season and came in fresh.”
FC Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong is among the players on PSG’s radar. The Spanish club facing financial challenges and needs to sell players to boost funds for team improvement.
De Jong has attracted interest from PSG, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United heading into the summer. Despite this, PSG, the reigning Ligue 1 champions, have seemingly ended their pursuit of de Jong.
