The electorate in Cyprus has elected a 24-year-old YouTuber star Fidias Panayiotou as representative to the European Parliament.
Fidias who ran as an independent candidate during the election was victorious owing duly to his fame which he gathered as a YouTube prankster having gathered 2.6 million followers.
Though without political experience and affiliation, Fidias was able to mobilize the youth with his online campaigns luring many of them to the poll.
The YouTuber describes his victory as a miracle, saying political parties should make the public opinion manifest.
His victory has been described as resounding, having made himself the topic of the island amid no political allegiance.
Fidias gathered a total number of 19.4% of the votes with the conservative party DISY taking 24.8% and communist AKEL garnering 21.5%.
