The Israeli army asserted on Wednesday that it had achieved complete “operational control” over the Philadelphi Corridor, a demilitarized buffer zone running along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
However, it noted that its forces are stationed in most of the corridor, with exceptions including a small section near the coast and Tel al-Sultan in western Rafah.
Following a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Israel has persisted with its aggressive campaign in Gaza, disregarding a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.
Local health authorities report that over 36,170 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed, with more than 81,400 others injured since the onset of the offensive.
After nearly eight months of conflict, extensive areas of Gaza lie in ruins, compounded by a severe blockade on essential supplies such as food, clean water, and medicine.
