Burkina Faso’s Military Junta has expelled France’s ambassador according to an authorities’ report there is an increase in anti-french sentiments in Burkina Faso since the new military leader (junta) seized power.
The new leader always strengthens his ties with Russia. In December Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kyelem de Tambela also visited Russia to enhance relations and consolidate efforts to combat extremists in the region, according to Russia’s foreign ministry.
The current military leader overthrew the previous leader claiming that nothing has done enough to stop internal fights in the country. Burkina Faso has been in chaos due to violence linked to al-Qaida and the Islamic State groups which have killed thousands and displaced nearly 2 million people in the country.
France sent troops to West Africa’s Sahel region in 2013 when it helped drive Islamic extremists from power in northern Mali.
Even though Burkina Faso’s military leaders mentioned restoring security as their chief priority, jihadist extremist attacks have continued and are escalating. Last week ten people were killed.
