More than 200 jawans of the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) became ill after reportedly consuming contaminated food at a training camp in Bhimnagar, Supaul, on Sunday. Officials suspect that the incident is a case of food poisoning.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shaishav Yadav confirmed that six jawans are currently receiving treatment, while the rest were taken to Birnagar Sub Divisional Hospital for medical evaluations. Symptoms such as heartburn, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea were reported by many of the affected jawans shortly after eating.
Concerns about the food quality at the camp had been raised by the jawans since their arrival for training. The 12th and 15th battalions of the BSAP are currently stationed at the Bhimnagar training camp, where the suspect meals were served.
The local administration has responded swiftly to the situation. Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Neeraj Kumar and Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Surendra Kumar were present at the hospital to monitor the situation. SP Yadav assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to identify the cause of the food poisoning and hold those responsible accountable.
This incident highlights the critical importance of food safety in military and police camps, where the health and efficiency of personnel are paramount. Concerns over food preparation and hygiene standards at such facilities must be addressed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Further details are expected as the investigation continues, shedding light on the food safety protocols at the camp.
