African leaders will travel to Moscow next month or early July, according to Russia, as part of a peace initiative for the Ukraine conflict announced by south african president Cyril Ramaphosa.
Russian president vladimir putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to Ramaphosa, have each agreed to accept the six-member delegation, which will fly to Moscow and Kyiv.
“We are talking about mid-June or early July,” foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said, “taking into account President Ramaphosa’s wishes.”
Lavrov spoke at a press conference with jeje odongo, his counterpart from Uganda, one of the countries participating in the initiative.
The presidents of the Republic of Congo, Egypt, Senegal, south africa, and Zambia are among the other members of the delegation announced by Ramaphosa.
Russia would be looking forward to seeing “concrete plans” taken forward by the delegation, he said.
