The joint DR-Congo and Uganda Military operation rescued more than 100 prisoners who were abducted by a rebel Islamist Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). ADF operates in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
For more than a month, the Air force military of both DR Congo and Uganda had been attacking the citadel of the ADF in the Mwalika and Nzulube valleys, Lusilubi at the junction of the Semuliki River in Beni in North Kivu region, and in Beu near Boga in Irumu territory in the Ituri region.
The ADF forces insurgency started by attacking the Ugandan government in 1995 and then followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo. The forces murdered about 700 innocent civilians.
The joint DR Congo and Uganda armed forces operation started after the destruction of the ADF Camps and the ADF forces disassembled into different groups when the operation started.
The hostages abducted by the ADF include women and children who were abducted from different locations.
