The 77-year-old leftist defeated far-right incumbent president Jair Bolsonaro in October 2022.
While taking the oath of office in the country’s capital Brasília, he vowed to “maintain, defend and obey the constitution”.
He also promised to rescue 33 million Brazilians from hunger and 100 million from poverty, which is nearly half of the country’s 215 million population.
He claims the Bolsonaro government commit “genocide” by failing to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the death of more than 680,000 Brazilians.
Furthermore, he also claims no country can match it for the resources needed to become a great environmental power.
