The US and her Western allies are vehemently on the look for a historic vote globally in their attempt to condemn Russia’s annexation of some territories in Ukraine.
With the U.N set to decide on Russia’s operation in Ukraine next week, the global organization is set to take its stand on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, after a failed U.N Security Council meeting where Russia vetoed the decision of the organ.
Source has it that, the U.S in connection with their western allies is using every possible means to gain international support against Russia in the next coming U.N special session.
Should the U.S and her allies have the majority of votes in next week’s U.N General Assembly special session, it will be a major boost for them in their quest to totally isolate Russian President, Vladimir Putin and also debunk his argument of liberating the people of the annexed region in Ukraine.
Setting the target vote straight, the EU has invited nearly all the U.N members to a round table discussion, with Syria, North Korea, and Belarus not on the invite list owing duly to their opposition to Ukraine’s territorial integrity in the just concluded U.N resolutions.
With the U.S and allies bent on reaching an agreement with every possible means in other to get popular support against Russia, the Russian ambassador to the U.N had condemned the approach of the U.S and allies in lobbying for the draft resolution as a politicized and provocative development, urging U.N members to vote against the resolution.
The Russian on their side is calling for a secret ballot to amputate the influence of the Western allies in the U.N.
In seeing to their aimed agenda against Russia, the Western allies would be working to gather 141 votes, which is the maximum standard of a simple majority vote in the U.N.
Despite their ongoing attempt to gather popular support, the Western allies are faced with the policy of non-alignment from some countries, and also the neutral stance in the voting process in the U.N is another issue to tackle with.
The Western allies are hoping to bank on the arguments that, Russia’s actions in Ukraine undermine the foundation on which the U.N Charter stands for, and Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had called on countries of the world to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine instead of taking a neutral stand.
