China has demanded that the U.S abolish its negotiation with Taiwan on arms deal worth accurately $108 million and stop its military operation in the country stating that China firmly opposes U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and urges the United States to revoke the arms sales plan, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Monday.
Earlier in July, It was reported that the U.S. State Department approved a sale of up to 108 million U.S. dollars worth of military technical support to Taiwan, and that it will be the 5th arms deal between Taiwan and U.S since Joe Biden took office last year.
China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin during a Monday press conference said that, China firmly opposes the U.S arms sales to Taiwan and urges the United States to revoke the arms sales plan, stating that, the U.S. arms sales to China’s Taiwan region seriously violate the one-China principle and gravely undermine China’s sovereignty and security interests, and severely harm China-U.S. relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
He said “China demands that the U.S immediately withdraw its plan to sell weapons, sever all military relations with Taiwan, or otherwise, the destruction of normalcy between China and U.S, instability in Taiwan will falls solely on the United States.”
China urges the U.S. side to abide by the one-China principle and the China-U.S. joint communiques, revoke the arms sales plan to Taiwan, and stop arms sales to and military ties with Taiwan, Wang said.
“China will continue to take resolute and strong measures to firmly defend its sovereignty and security interests,” he added.
