Gunmen Launch Deadly Assault at Turkish Aerospace Industries HQ
At least five people were killed, and 22 others injured in a coordinated attack at Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) near Ankara. The attack, which occurred during a shift change, involved two gunmen, later identified as a man and a woman, who were “neutralized” by Turkish forces. Authorities suspect the involvement of the banned Kurdish militant group, the PKK, though no group has claimed responsibility.
Airstrikes Follow as Turkey Targets PKK Strongholds
In response, Turkey’s defense ministry launched retaliatory airstrikes on PKK positions in northern Iraq and Syria. Four of the victims were TAI employees, while the fifth was a taxi driver, killed before his vehicle was used in the attack. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that seven special operations forces were among the injured, heightening concerns about escalating violence.
Erdogan Condemns ‘Vile Terror Attack,’ Social Media Restricted
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack during a BRICS summit in Russia, promising swift retaliation against terrorism. Following the assault, Turkish authorities imposed a media blackout, restricting access to social media platforms and urging citizens to avoid sharing images that could further the terrorists’ agenda.
