NC Unanimously Backs Omar Abdullah for Leadership
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and head of the National Conference (NC), confirmed that Omar Abdullah’s name has nearly been finalized for the Chief Ministership. Omar was unanimously elected as the leader of the NC Legislature Party, setting the stage for his leadership in the region.
Historic Role as First Chief Minister of Union Territory
Omar Abdullah will make history as the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after its reorganization as a Union Territory. Backed by a coalition with Congress, the new government will hold 48 seats and also have support from independent candidates who joined the NC.
Alliance to Stake Claim for Government Formation
The NC-Congress alliance is set to officially name Omar Abdullah as their chief ministerial candidate in a joint meeting on Friday. Leaders from both parties will meet Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday to stake their claim to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir.
