Iran has officially declared a state of war against Israel, stating that any content perceived as supportive of Israel or undermining the Iranian government will be considered treasonous. This declaration comes in the wake of increased military actions and rising tensions between the two nations, particularly following a recent Israeli airstrike that killed prominent Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that the country is prepared to respond decisively to any actions taken by Israel, framing the conflict as a matter of national sovereignty and defence. “The country has entered a state of war, and the government warns that any content in favour of the enemy is considered treason,” he stated.
The declaration follows a series of military confrontations between Iran and Israel, including an Israeli airstrike in Damascus that targeted Iranian military assets. This strike was reportedly a response to Iran’s earlier missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory, which involved deploying over 300 drones and missiles in what experts have described as a “declaration of war” by Iran against Israel. Although Israel claimed to have intercepted 99% of these attacks, the scale and intent behind them signify a significant escalation in hostilities.
Max Abrahms, an associate professor at Northeastern University, noted that Iran’s recent actions could have broader implications for regional stability. “Iran has essentially declared war against Israel, and Israel is going to respond in a substantial way,” he stated. The fear is that this could lead to a wider conflict involving multiple actors across the Middle East.
The international community has reacted with alarm to these developments. The United States has reiterated its commitment to Israel’s security while urging all parties to de-escalate tensions. U.S. officials have expressed concern about the potential for a full-scale war in the region and are advocating for diplomatic solutions.
In response to Iran’s declaration, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that Israel would continue its military operations against Iranian proxies in Lebanon and Syria until its objectives are met. He emphasized that as long as Hezbollah chooses the path of war, Israel has no choice but to act decisively.
