Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, youngest daughter of the late King Constantine II of Greece, wed her fiancé, Matthew Kumar, in a traditional Orthodox ceremony in Athens on Saturday.
The service took place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, the same venue where her father’s funeral was held in January 2023. Royals from both Greece and Denmark attended the event, along with many onlookers who gathered to see Theodora, 41, dressed in a white embroidered gown with a long veil, walk down the aisle escorted by her brother, Pavlos.
Matthew Kumar, a Los Angeles-based lawyer, and Theodora have been engaged since 2018. The Greek royal family noted in a statement that the couple’s decision to hold their wedding in Athens reflects their deep connection to Greece and their wish to share Greek culture and traditions with their guests. Among the attendees was Theodora’s aunt, Spain’s former Queen Sofia.
Theodora was born in London and holds a bachelor’s degree in theater arts. She moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to pursue acting and appeared in the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful in 2011. Her father, Constantine II, who was forced into exile in 1967 during a military coup, lived in exile after Greece abolished the monarchy in 1973 through a referendum.
