A large deployment of tanks has been observed moving toward Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, signalling a major escalation in the ongoing conflict. Large convoys of tanks are advancing toward the border, following over ten days of relentless airstrikes inside Lebanon and the high-profile strike that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.
Reports indicate that Israeli tanks and ground troops are preparing for potential ground operations, with sources close to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) suggesting that an operation could commence as early as tonight. The objective appears to be the establishment of a “buffer zone” up to the Litani River, approximately 18 miles from the Israeli border, aimed at ensuring the safe return of residents to their homes in northern Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that the military is ready to take decisive action against Hezbollah. “Our policy is clear,” he stated. “We will continue to strike Hezbollah with full force until we achieve our goals.” This comes amid warnings from top Israeli officials that Lebanon could face severe consequences if Hezbollah persists with its rocket attacks.
International reactions have been mixed, with several governments expressing concern over a potential invasion. French President Emmanuel Macron recently voiced his disapproval, urging restraint and diplomatic solutions to the escalating tensions.
