A volatile situation has unfolded at the Torkham border as Pakistan’s Frontier Corps (FC) and Afghan forces engage in an ongoing exchange of fire, deploying heavy weaponry in the conflict.
According to sources within the FC, the confrontation began when Afghan forces initiated the construction of a road and fortifications near the Torkham border. FC officials promptly requested the cessation of these construction activities, but the Afghan forces refused to comply. This refusal escalated tensions, leading to intermittent firefights between the two sides.
As the skirmish continues, both parties have resorted to using heavy weapons. Despite the intensity of the clashes, no casualties have been reported thus far. In response to the deteriorating security situation, authorities have closed the Torkham border crossing to all forms of traffic, effectively halting movement in the area.
The hostilities have also prompted civilian evacuations. Numerous families residing in Torkham Bazaar and the surrounding regions have relocated to safer areas to avoid the dangers posed by the conflict.
Efforts to de-escalate the situation are ongoing, with calls for restraint from both sides to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of civilians in the vicinity.
