Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has urged the military forces of the nation to play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and legitimate transition following the upcoming presidential elections later this month.
Machado emphasized the importance of the military’s involvement in overseeing a transition that upholds democratic principles and ensures orderliness.
Her call underscores the significance of military support in navigating Venezuela’s political landscape during this pivotal electoral period.
Machado stated in a video posted on X during a national holiday celebrating Venezuela’s independence act, “You will witness firsthand a nation’s call for freedom, achieved through peaceful, democratic, and constitutional methods.”
A court ruling banned Maria Corina Machado from running due to alleged fraud violations, but the opposition still holds a substantial lead in opinion polls ahead of the July 28 vote.
That decision forced her coalition to rally behind a new candidate, former diplomat Edmundo Gonzalez.
