The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday has expressed deep concern over escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon, calling for de-escalation between both countries.
Expressing concern, Antonio Guterres says a rash move between Israel and Lebanon could lead to further catastrophe beyond imagination.
“Let’s be clear, the people of the region and the people of the world cannot afford Lebanon to become another Gaza”, Guterres opine.
He added that the UN peacekeeping mission is working to calm the situation and prevent miscalculations.
Hezbollah and the IDF have been engaging in massive rocket attacks as the Lebanon militant express solidarity with Gaza in its conflict against Israel.
A UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL, as well as unarmed technical observers known as UNTSO, have long been stationed in southern Lebanon to monitor hostilities along the demarcation line between Lebanon and Israel, known as the Blue Line.
