China’s Ministry of Commerce on Friday warned the European Union against escalating a trade war as the bloc is accused of playing foul play during its eight-month-long anti-subsidy probe into Chinese electric vehicles.
The European Union has been accused of escalating tensions regarding trading after the Commission proposed tariffs of up to 38.1% on electric vehicles imported from China.
Despite China’s protest against the European Union’s imposition of the trade tariff, the bloc continued its imposition after the United States sanctioned the Chinese over the importation of goods from the country.
The spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce accused the European Union of escalating trade friction which could trigger a trade war, saying the responsibility lies entirely with the European side.
The Ministry added that “In its countervailing duties investigation, the European side intimidated and coerced Chinese enterprises, threatened to apply punitive high tariff rates, and demanded overly broad information.
Both the Chinese and German officials are expected to hold a meeting where discussions on the recent tariff announcement will be discussed.
