South Korean and US officials met to discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possible visit to North Korea, which Seoul believes will happen in a few days.
South Korea’s first vice foreign minister emphasized that Putin’s trip should not enhance military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow, which goes against UN Security Council resolutions and could destabilize regional peace.
The Vice Foreign Minister revealed the information during a phone call with US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, as reported by South Korean KBS World TV.
Campbell expressed “full support” for Seoul’s position, acknowledging Washington’s understanding of concerns over regional instability and challenges.
The two sides are gearing up for a unified and firm response to North Korea’s provocations against South Korea or actions that escalate regional tensions.
Reports indicate that Putin is planning visits to both North Korea and Vietnam. The Kremlin has neither confirmed nor denied these reports.
