Angry protesters clashed with the Armenian riot police as the security operatives fired grenades at the protesters outside the Armenian Parliament.
The protesters who stormed the Parliament on Wednesday in their demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian met with forced retaliation from the police.
The protest was led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanian who urged the Prime Minister to meet with them and discuss the terms of his departure.
Bagrat accused the Armenian Prime Minister of orchestrating autocratic rule in the country, misrule as he urged protesters to prevent him from absconding the Parliament building.
He added that “the man who failed the state must not be able to freely go to work, cynically ignore the pain caused to our people because of him.”
The protesters called on more Armenians to join in their demand for the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Pashinian after he rejected the resignation proposal from his opposition groups.
An altercation between the police and protesters reached the climax as the police tried to push angry protesters back from another street leading to the Parliament.
No less than 60 protesters were arrested and detained by the police before the escalation between the police and protesters intensified.
The Armenian police accused the protesters of orchestrating the violence, justifying the situation was out of control which prompted the use of grenades against the protesters.
