There has been speculation that Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others who were on board a missing plane might have been dead.
The Vice President was declared missing after his plane was supposed to make a scheduled landing at the Mzuzu International Airport at around 10:05 a.m.
The President in a live telecast expressed concern over the missing of his Vice as he canceled his flight to the Bahamas.
Speaking over the missing Aircraft, President Lazarus Chakwera said the rescue mission will continue until the plane is found, expressing optimism that all passengers on board should be found alive.
There has been external support from foreign countries including the United States in locating the Malawi Vice President and nine others.
The President said he had given a strict order to the soldiers to continue their ground operation until the plane was found as he affirmed his commitment to ensuring all passengers were found.
Though expressing optimism for the survival of the Vice president and his entourage, many have presumed them dead after 24 hours of inability to locate their aircraft.
